Hello, my name is John McComsey.  I bought my first wagon in 1994 and a team of Molly mules.  The first big wagon ride I went on was from Boaz to Montgomery, AL.  It was 165 miles in 8 days and I learned a lot very quick. That was a great ride and I was hooked and I have gone on that ride several times since then.

About two and a half years ago I called my sister Bev in Phoenix, AZ and told her I was planning on driving my mules to Phoenix in 2009.  She laughed & said, “I’ll see you when you get here.”  I don’t think she thought I was serious.  But I was!

A friend of mine, Christine, contacted AAA and they planned my trip to Phoenix, AZ.  They did a real good job and I was pleased for what they did for me.  The book maps were detailed really well.  This trip is about 1600 to 1800 miles one way and should take me from 80 to 120 days to complete.  I hope to average 20 miles each day.  Drive for 5 or 6 days & rest for 1 or 2.  The weather has a lot to do with this and the mules.

There are many people on both ends of the route that are pulling for me and offering assistance if I should need anything.  The route I am taking will take me through Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. I am planning to arrive in Phoenix around the 4th of July 2009. When I get there I will spend a couple weeks and decide how I will return home don’t know which way yet thinking of a more northern route.

I have planned this trip around my retirement, while I still have my health.  I have   thought about making this trip for a long time.  This is my dream and now it’s coming true.

I am leaving out of Henry, TN April 1, 2009 and heading west.  I think this is the best way to see America.  I am going slow enough to see what she has to offer.  The world is going too fast and people don’t have time to see what is around them.  I like to meet new people and share new ideas.  The only one who wants to come with me is Britt, my 4 year old Blue Heeler.  She will be great company for me.  So look for me & wave me on as I fulfill my dream to see some of the best this country has to offer one day at a time.
